Richard’s Story

RICHARD’S STORY

In 1976 Richard Stockman began what would become an incredible journey into the wine industry. Richard was only 7 years old when his family purchased a vineyard in Northwood, Victoria, just a short distance north of the Great Dividing Range.

Spending a lot of his adolescence at their Hankin Estate winery (located just 7kms from the iconic Tahbilk), led to an early appreciation and a very strong knowledge of Wine.

At 17 years of age and still under the legal drinking age in Australia, Richard was accepted into the prestigious Roseworthy College in South Australia where he began a degree in Oenology (Winemaking)

After 8 years overseas, Richard returned to his family’s winery in 1998. While furthering his studies in wine, Richard started producing his own wine under the Stockman label in 2001. Today Richard continues his Winemaking practices by utilising his contacts in the industry, providing expertise in his field.

He and his wife Maria have a small vineyard in Diamond Creek. An 8 acre property they refer to as ‘The Jewel in the Yarra’.

Richard was a very friendly host. He was more than happy to take the time to explain all about where his wine is grown and the process he takes to create the finished product. I would highly recommend his wine.
